Work stress: a 15-minute reset that is not more productivity
Work stress often follows you home as unfinished sentences: the message you should have sent, the meeting tone, tomorrow’s list. Another to-do app rarely helps. A short, boring reset does.
Close the loop on paper (3 min)
Write three lines: what is actually due tomorrow, what can wait, what is a feeling pretending to be a task (“they think I am incompetent”). Parking beats rumination in the kitchen.
Change state, not just tabs (5 min)
Walk around the block, stretch your jaw and shoulders, or shower. The body still thinks it is in the meeting. Motion tells it the meeting ended.
One feeling, not a performance review (2 min)
Name it: angry, small, wired, ashamed, empty. You do not have to justify it to a manager. Naming reduces the pile-on of “I should be tougher.”
Protect the first hour off
Delay the inbox. Bright work chat in bed trains the alarm to stay on. If you must check, set a 10-minute timer and stop.
When it is not just a hard week
If you cannot recover on rest days, sleep is broken for weeks, or you feel hopeless about work and everything else, talk to a human professional. Self-help is a supplement, not a manager for burnout.
Safe Space can hold the three-line dump and a two-minute breathing drill — AI psychologist chat when you want to talk it through. Web and Android; iOS coming later.
Safe Space is a self-help wellness tool, not a medical device, and does not replace professional care. If you are struggling or in crisis, contact a clinician or a crisis hotline.
